The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for leading and automating the team's private cloud and compute infrastructure, including operating systems and IaaS and PaaS platforms. As a Senior Systems Engineer (OS), your role will be to deploy and mature a production-grade Centos7 operating system that will be the backbone of the team's infrastructure.
Key deliverables will be:
Ensuring a secure and compliant base OS that meets industry best-practices and our compliance obligations (FedRAMP, PCI, HIPAA, etc).
Build necessary tooling to ensure daily builds of the base OS with up-to-date packages and configuration.
Enable Service Owners to migrate from Scientific Linux 6 to Centos7, including providing the necessary tooling and documentation to be successful.
Identifying and driving continuous improvements to increase stability, performance, functionality by ensuring the base OS meets Operational best practices (configuration management)
The engineer will be dedicated to performing the following:
Define what a supported OS means for the team (packages, support model, customization)
Requirement gathering (patching, provisioning, build pipeline, Openstack, AWS, etc)
Cleanup of Puppet modules to cleanly separate Centos7 from current SL6
Ensuring image is consumable in Bare Metal, Openstack, VMware and Public Cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc).
Ensure Base OS meets all security and compliance requirements (e.G. CIS Benchmark, SELinux)
Assisting Service Owners with adoption and migration to Centos7.
Build/Development of appropriate supporting tools (build environment, testing environment).
Documentation (clear area of responsibilities, expectations, technical implementation) so teams can customize the OS as needed (i.E. Custom performance tuning, disk layouts, etc).
