Exciting opportunity for an experienced Deployment Engineer / Linux Systems Administrator to support rapidly growing pre-IPO software company in downtown San Francisco. Key responsibilities will be supporting the IT Operations team in provisioning and deployment of VMware and KVM virtual machines into the production environment. Strong potential for contract-to-hire for the right resource. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Support production platform, across VMware based private cloud and multi-site install
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule
  • Install, manage and troubleshoot data center infrastructure
  • Monitor metrics and KPIs for infrastructure uptime, performance and capacity
  • Optimize and fine tune the environment and systems for best uptime and performance
  • Ensure a streamlined/automated application deployment
  • Manage storage platforms (Block/SAN, NFS/NAS). Have deep understanding of storage technology (Pure, EMC Isilon)
  • Manage backup and recovery, include cross site DR practice for prevention of data loss
  • Assist with implementation of system and platform security solutions, working in conjunction with Security Operations team
  • Background / Experience requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator
  • Proven CLI skills and strong scripting skills, ideally with bash, Python and/or Ruby
  • Solid experience with VMware VCenter and KVM hypervisors
  • Prior experience supporting VMware based production environments in a midsize to large company.
  • 3+ years Network expertise Linux kernel network features, BGP, routing, web (REST) APIs
  • Proven experience working with Chef is a must.
  • High availability engineering experience (clustering, consensus algorithms, fail-over mechanisms) is a big plus
  • 2+ years of working with infrastructure configuration and management tools like Chef and Terraform (is a plus)
  • Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) for virtualization hardware is a plus Certification in one or more of the following is preferred:
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Red Hat OpenShift Administration
  • VMware VCP
